About Tagiades litigiosa ultra Evans, 1932
Male: Upper side. Forewing is black, usually darker and more densely colored than that of Tagiades menaka. Markings are similar to T. menaka, except for two additional spots: one located below the cell spot at the origin of vein 5, and another in the middle of the first median interspace. This arrangement places the four spots, including the sub-costal spot, along a slightly curved line. Hindwing has a generally smaller white area than that of T. menaka, with marginal spots matching those of T. menaka, and the two black spots that appear within the white area of T. menaka are absent here. Underside. Forewing is paler, with the same markings seen on the upper side. Hindwing matches the underside of T. menaka, but has larger black spots. Palpi, legs, head, and the body both above and below are similar to those of T. menaka. Female is similar to the male of this subspecies. Semi-hyaline spots on the forewing and black spots on the hindwing are larger. The two large black spots on the inner side of the black apical band sit half inside the white space, just as they do in female T. menaka. The larvae of this subspecies feed on Dioscorea oppositifolia, Dioscorea alata, and Smilax species.
