Syzygium sandwicense (A.Gray) Nied. is a flowering plant species belonging to the myrtle family, Myrtaceae, and it is endemic to Hawaii. Its common names are ʻŌhiʻa ha, Hā, and Pāʻihi. It usually grows as a large tree, reaching 18 meters (59 feet) in height and 0.9 meters (3.0 feet) in trunk diameter, though it grows as a shrub on exposed ridges. This species grows in coastal mesic forests, mixed mesic forests, wet forests, and bogs, at elevations between 230 and 1,220 meters (750 to 4,000 feet), and can be found on most of Hawaii's main islands.
