About Synthyris alpina A.Gray

Veronica besseya was first documented for Western science by Charles Parry in 1861, who found it growing at the headwaters of South Clear Creek, Colorado. This species is endemic to Western North America, with confirmed native populations located in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. It is a very small plant, reaching 2–8 inches in height, and grows in the alpine tundra of the Rocky Mountains. Its stems and leaves can vary from completely glabrous (free of hairs) to densely pilose (covered in long hairs). The scientific name given in this entry is Synthyris alpina A.Gray.
