About Syngamia florella Cramer, 1781

Syngamia florella, commonly known as the orange-spotted flower moth or red waisted florella moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Crambidae. This species was originally described in 1781, credited to either Cramer or Caspar Stoll. Its distribution ranges from South Carolina to Florida, and from Arkansas to Texas in the southern United States, extending south through Mexico to Argentina, including the West Indies; it is also found on Bermuda. This moth has a wingspan of approximately 15 mm. Across most of its range, adults are active in flight from July through December, while in Florida, flight activity has only been recorded from September to December. The larvae of Syngamia florella feed on Borreria brachysepala, Spermacoce laevis, and Spermacoce tetraquetra.
