About Synema imitatrix (Pavesi, 1883)
Synema imitatrix is a species of crab spider that belongs to the family Thomisidae. This species is endemic to eastern and southern Africa. It has been recorded in Ethiopia, Mozambique, South Africa, and Eswatini. Within South Africa, it can be found in all provinces, and occurs in more than 15 protected areas. Notable locations where it has been found include Kruger National Park, Mountain Zebra National Park, Giant's Castle Nature Reserve, Karoo National Park, and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. Synema imitatrix is a free-living spider that lives on vegetation, and is occasionally found inside flower corollas. In South Africa, it has been recorded in all biomes except the Desert and Succulent Karoo biomes. The species has also been found in agricultural areas, including avocado, citrus, and macadamia orchards, as well as tomato fields. Its altitudinal range extends from 1 to 1,902 metres above sea level.
