Synaphaeta is a genus of beetles in the family Cerambycidae that contains only one single species. The genus was first described by Thomson in 1864. The only species belonging to this genus is Synaphaeta guexi, which is also commonly known as the spotted tree borer. This species is found in the Pacific states of North America, ranging from British Columbia in the north down to California in the south. Synaphaeta guexi has been successfully reared from multiple types of hardwood trees. Recorded host trees include Pacific willow (Salix lasiandra), white alder (Alnus rhombifolia), coffeeberry (Frangula californica), English walnut (Juglans regia), and cherry (Prunus sp.). The species was originally described by John Lawrence LeConte in 1852, using a specimen collected from Benicia, California.
