About Sympistis forbesi Zacharczenko & Wagner, 2014
Sympistis forbesi is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. It was first formally described by Brigette Zacharczenko and David L. Wagner in 2014. This moth has been recorded from the U.S. states of Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota. Researchers believe it is no longer present in the eastern part of its former range, which includes New York and New Jersey. For male individuals of this species, forewings measure between 14.5 and 16 mm in length. For females, forewing length ranges from 14 to 16.5 mm. Adult Sympistis forbesi have one generation per year, and they are active in flight during late summer. The larvae of this moth feed on plant species from the genus Triosteum, which definitely includes Triosteum perfoliatum, and may also include Triosteum aurantiacum. The larvae themselves are green, with a reddish marking along their dorsal surface.
