Symphyotrichum turbinellum (Lindl.) G.L.Nesom is a perennial flowering plant that grows 30–100 centimeters (12–39 inches) tall. It has straight, brittle stems, and flowers from August to October. Each flower head holds 14–20 light blue to purple ray florets, with roughly the same number of disk florets that start yellow and turn purple later. This species is native to the United States, occurring in Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma, with populations primarily concentrated in the Ozarks. It grows in dry, acidic soils at elevations ranging from 60 to 900 meters (200 to 2,950 feet).
