Symphyotrichum pratense (Raf.) G.L.Nesom, previously classified as Aster pratensis, is a flowering plant species belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is native to the southeastern United States, and is commonly called barrens silky aster. This species is a perennial herbaceous plant that grows between 40 and 60 centimeters, or 16 and 24 inches, tall. Its flower heads have rose-purple ray florets, and their disk florets are pink when young before turning purple.
