About Symphyotrichum oblongifolium (Nutt.) G.L.Nesom
This species, commonly called aromatic aster, is a perennial herbaceous flowering plant. It grows between 10 and 80 centimeters (4 to 31 inches) tall, producing one to ten or more stems that grow from a sturdy caudex. It blooms from August to November, bearing many flower heads in various shades of purple. Aromatic aster grows across parts of the central United States. It can be found in parts of Kansas, Ohio, northern Illinois, the hilly regions of southern Illinois, along the banks of the Mississippi River and the Illinois River, in Missouri, along the Ohio River, and in an area spanning from Pennsylvania to Nebraska to Minnesota to Virginia.
