About Symphyotrichum hallii (A.Gray) G.L.Nesom
Symphyotrichum hallii (formerly classified as Aster hallii) is a flowering plant species in the Asteraceae family that is endemic to the western regions of the U.S. states Oregon and Washington. It is commonly called Hall's aster. This species is a perennial herbaceous plant that has a long rhizome, which allows it to form large colonies of itself. It typically grows to between 30 and 60 centimeters (1 to 2 feet) in height. Its flowers have white ray florets, which are sometimes pale violet, and they open between July and August. Most known populations of this species occur at elevations between 0 and 500 meters (0 and 1,640 feet), growing in open areas within the Puget Sound region and Willamette Valley. Small outlier populations are found in the Columbia Gorge and central Washington. In Washington state, Symphyotrichum hallii is classified as conservationally Imperiled (S2).
