About Sympetrum vulgatum (Linnaeus, 1758)

The vagrant darter, also called the moustached darter, has the scientific name Sympetrum vulgatum. It is a European dragonfly. Its English common name comes from its behaviour of occasionally appearing as a rare vagrant north of its usual range. The species is very similar to the common darter (S. striolatum), so it is likely under-recorded. It is common in central and northeastern Europe, and breeds in standing water.
