The common darter, with the scientific name Sympetrum striolatum, is a dragonfly species that belongs to the family Libellulidae. It is native to Eurasia, and is one of the most common dragonfly species found across Europe. This species can be found living near a very wide range of different water bodies, but it prefers to breed in still water, such as ponds and lakes. In the southern portions of its range, adult common darters can be seen flying throughout the entire year.
