About Sympetrum frequens (Selys, 1883)

Sympetrum frequens, commonly called the Autumn darter, and known as akiakane (アキアカネ) in Japanese, is a dragonfly species that is endemic to Japan. This species inhabits areas near grasslands, and fully grown individuals can reach up to 40 millimeters in length. After emerging as adults, the dragonflies migrate to high mountains to feed. They later descend to lower elevation breeding pools, which are often temporary or artificial sites that include rice fields.
