About Suaeda australis (R.Br.) Moq.

Suaeda australis (R.Br.) Moq. grows 10 to 90 cm (4 to 35 in) tall, with a spreading growth habit and branches that emerge from its base. Its leaves reach up to 40 mm in length; they are succulent, linear, flattened, and range in color from light green to purplish-red. This species grows on shorelines in coastal or estuarine areas, or in salt marshes. It is native throughout Australia, occurring naturally in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, and the south-west of Western Australia. In irrigated regions, Suaeda australis is known as a salinity indicator plant, and is commonly called redweed.
