Styrax platanifolius Engelm. ex Torr. is a flowering shrub that can reach up to 6 meters in height. Its leaves vary in shape, and are generally oval with smooth, toothed, or lobed edges. The leaves measure between 4.5 and 12 centimeters in length. The inflorescence may be a single solitary flower, or a cluster of up to 7 flowers. Each bell-shaped white flower is 1 to 2 centimeters long. The fruit produced is a hairy, spherical capsule that is approximately one centimeter long.
