About Stylocline micropoides A.Gray

Stylocline micropoides is a species of flowering plant in the daisy family (Asteraceae). Its common names are woollyhead neststraw, woollyhead fanbract and desert neststraw. This plant is native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, where it grows in desert habitat and other dry areas. It is a small annual herb that grows at ground level, with stems reaching approximately 20 centimeters in length. The entire plant has a woolly or felt-like texture from a coating of white hairs. Its pointed leaves, which grow to 2 centimeters in length, are arranged alternately along the stems. The inflorescence produces spherical flower heads that are no more than 1 centimeter in diameter. Flower heads of this species usually have no phyllaries, or only have small phyllaries that fall off early. Each flower head contains several woolly white flowers.
