About Strumpfia maritima Jacq.

Strumpfia is a monotypic genus of flowering plants belonging to the family Rubiaceae. This genus contains only a single species, Strumpfia maritima, which is the only species classified in the tribe Strumpfieae. Strumpfia maritima has a common name of Pride of Big Pine. This plant is an evergreen shrub that grows in coastal regions, and it rarely grows taller than 1 meter (3.3 feet). Its range extends from southern Florida to northern Venezuela. The genus Strumpfia was first published and named by Nicolaus Jacquin in 1760, in his work Enumeratio Systematis Plantarum. Jacquin named the genus for Christopher Strumpf, who worked as professor of chemistry and botany at Hall in Magdeburg, and served as editor of Carl Linnaeus's Genera Plantarum.
