About Stromatium barbatum (Fabricius, 1775)
Stromatium barbatum individuals measure 16โ26.5 millimetres (0.63โ1.04 in) in length and 4โ7.5 millimetres (0.16โ0.30 in) in breadth. Their body colour ranges from brownish black to reddish brown, and they are faintly covered with tawny pubescence. The upper and side regions of the head are densely and rather coarsely punctured, while the front of the head is as densely punctured but less strongly marked. The prothorax is very densely covered with strong coarse punctures. The prothorax disc has five slightly raised tubercles, which are less distinct in males; the tubercles are arranged as two anteriorly, one behind the middle, and two near the base. In females, the sides of the prothorax are broadly and obtusely protuberant except near the base. In males, the sides are straighter, and each side has a large tomentose depression that extends along most of its length. The elytra are coarsely and very densely punctured. Each elytron has two tolerably distinct dorsal costae and one or two short lateral costae; the lateral costae are sometimes obsolete. A short sutural tooth is present at the apex of each elytron.
