Caulanthus simulans, also called Streptanthus simulans (Payson) Jeps., is a species of flowering plant in the mustard family Brassicaceae. Its common names are Payson's wild cabbage and Payson's jewelflower. This plant is endemic to southern California, and is mainly found in open, dry habitats in the hills and deserts of Riverside and San Diego Counties. It is a bristly annual herb with deeply cut leaves; the longest leaves grow in a cluster around the base of the stem. Its flowers are covered in thick, purple-tinted greenish sepals that split open to reveal narrow, pale yellow petals at the tip. The plant produces a fruit called a silique that can reach up to 8 centimeters (3.1 inches) long.
