Stipa pennata subsp. pennata, the subspecies of Stipa pennata commonly called European feather grass, is a flowering arid zone sand grass that belongs to the grass family Poaceae. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant, valued for its feathery flowering spikes. It is one of the most common plants found across the Eurasian Steppe, ranging from Mongolia in the east to Hungary's Puszta and Slovakia's Devínska Kobyla forest-steppe in the west. During summer, this grass has green foliage and silvery-grey flowers, and it grows to a height of 60 to 90 centimetres (24 to 35 inches).
