The black-headed tanager, with the scientific name Stilpnia cyanoptera (Swainson, 1834), is a bird species that belongs to the Thraupidae family. It is distributed in the Andes of northeastern Colombia and the Venezuelan Coastal Range. Its natural habitats include subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland, and heavily degraded former forest. Previously, the black-hooded tanager (Stilpnia whitelyi) was classified as the same species as the black-headed tanager.
