About Sternocera aequisignata Saunders, 1866

Sternocera aequisignata reaches a body length of approximately 30 to 50 millimetres (1.2 to 2.0 inches). The elytra and pronotum display a striking metallic emerald iridescence, which exhibits none or very weak reflectance in the near-infrared range. The pronotum is densely covered in punctures. This species is distributed across southern Asia, ranging from India, Myanmar and Thailand to southern Vietnam. In northern Thailand, Laos, and China, both Sternocera aequisignata and the closely similar Sternocera ruficornis are eaten by humans as a food source. This consumption is one of the main causes of population decline for the species in this region.
