About Stenopterus ater (Linnaeus, 1767)
Stenopterus ater is a species of longhorn beetle distributed across the Western Mediterranean region, ranging from North Africa to France and Italy. This species develops in dead wood during its larval stage. In summer, adult Stenopterus ater visit flowers of plants in the family Umbelliferae. Adult body length ranges from approximately 6 to 14 millimeters, and males and females of the species differ in coloration. Females have entirely black elytra, while males have yellowish brown elytra. One recorded case of gynandromorphism exists for this species.
