About Stenocorus meridianus (Linnaeus, 1758)
Stenocorus meridianus is a species of longhorn beetle that belongs to the Lepturinae subfamily. This species can be found across most of Europe, excluding the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Ireland, Malta, and parts of Italy including San Marino, Sardinia, Sicily, and Vatican City. It is also present in the Caucasus and Kazakhstan. Adults of this species measure between 15 and 27 millimetres, or 0.59 to 1.06 inches, in length. All individuals have brown legs, but prothorax color differs by sex: females have a black prothorax, while males have a brown one. These beetles occasionally feed on deciduous trees including elm, maple, and oak. The species has a total life cycle of 2 to 3 years, and adult flight occurs between May and July. During the larval stage, larvae develop inside the damaged timber of diseased trees.
