About Stenocactus ochoterenianus Tiegel
Stenocactus ochoterenianus Tiegel is a cactus that grows as a solitary individual. Its body is depressed spherical, colored bluish-green, with ribs. It can reach a maximum height of 8 cm (3.1 in) and a maximum diameter of 10 cm (3.9 in). This species typically has around 30 narrow, wavy ribs, which are widened at the location of the plant's yellowish areoles. It has four flat, wide yellow central spines that turn straw-colored as the plant ages. The upper central spines measure 5–6 cm (2.0–2.4 in) long and 2 mm (0.079 in) wide. There are 22 or more needle-shaped, white radial spines, all of equal length, reaching a maximum length of 1.2 cm (0.47 in). The dense spination often covers most of the plant's body. The flowers of Stenocactus ochoterenianus are either pale pink or pale greenish yellow, and grow 2.5 cm (0.98 in) long. Its fruits are spherical, greenish, and covered in white scales. This cactus is endemic to Mexico, where it occurs naturally in the states of Queretaro and Guanajuato. It has also been recorded in the Mexican states of Hidalgo, Jalisco, Aguascalientes, Zacatecas, and San Luis Potosí.
