About Stenobothrus stigmaticus (Rambur, 1838)

Stenobothrus stigmaticus (Rambur, 1838), commonly known as the lesser mottled grasshopper, is a grasshopper species that belongs to the subfamily Gomphocerinae of the family Acrididae. This species occupies most of Europe, with its range extending from southern Spain to Scandinavia. To the east, it reaches the Baltic Sea coast in southeastern Lithuania. In the southeast, it extends to European Russia through the Balkan Peninsula and Northern Greece. In southern Alps of Italy, this species is replaced by its very similar sister species Stenobothrus apenninus. In the British Isles, S. stigmaticus was originally native only to the Isle of Man, but there are now recorded sightings from north Wales and the Wash; a range map is available for reference.
