About Stenanthium leimanthoides (A.Gray) Zomlefer & Judd
Stenanthium leimanthoides (A.Gray) Zomlefer & Judd is a poisonous monocot wildflower, commonly known as pine barren deathcamas. It is classified in the tribe Melanthieae of the plant family Melanthiaceae. This species is either recognized as a separate species distinct from Stenanthium densum, or treated as a synonym of S. densum. 21st century molecular phylogenetic studies caused substantial rearrangement of species within the tribe Melanthieae, moving many species to different genera. In older sources, S. leimanthoides can be found under its former placement in the genus Zigadenus, where it was named Zigadenus leimanthoides. It is native to the southernmost United States, growing more inland than S. densum and occurring largely within the Appalachian Mountains.
