Taxonomic Classification
This species of damselfish, currently classified as Stegastes fasciolatus (Ogilby, 1889), is also referenced under the synonym Plectroglyphidodon fasciolatus. It is commonly known as the Pacific gregory, and belongs to the damselfish family Pomacentridae.
Diet
It is native to the tropical western Indo-Pacific, and its diet consists of filamentous algae.
Geographical Range
Its overall native range spans the western Indo-Pacific region, extending from East Africa to Australia and the Kermadec Islands, and also includes Hawaii, Easter Island, and the Ryukyu Islands.
General Habitat
Within this range, it inhabits shallow seaward reefs, and is particularly found in areas with mild to moderate water movement.
Depth Range
At Lord Howe Island and Easter Island, this species occurs from shallow surge pools down to depths of at least 30 meters (98 feet).
