About Stachys chamissonis Benth.
Stachys chamissonis Benth. is a species of flowering plant in the mint family, commonly known as coastal hedgenettle. It is a perennial herb native to the west coast of North America, where it grows in moist coastal habitats ranging from Alaska to central California. This plant grows an erect stem between 1 and 2 and a half meters, or 3.3 to 8.2 feet, tall. The stem is hairy, glandular, and aromatic. Its leaves are arranged oppositely, with pointed, wavy-edged blades that can grow up to 18 centimeters, or 7.1 inches, long, and each leaf is attached to the stem by a petiole. The hairy, glandular inflorescence is made up of interrupted clusters, each holding up to six flowers. Each flower has a deep pink tubular corolla that can be over 3 centimeters, or 1.2 inches, long. The corollas sit within hairy calyces formed of purple or purple-tinged sepals.
