About Spyridium eriocephalum Fenzl
Spyridium eriocephalum Fenzl is an erect to spreading shrub that usually reaches a maximum height of 50 cm (20 in). Its leaves are linear, measuring 5–14 mm (0.20–0.55 in) in length and 0.5–1 mm (0.020–0.039 in) in width. Linear brown stipules 2.0–3.5 mm (0.079–0.138 in) long grow at the base of each leaf. The upper surface of the leaves is glabrous, while the lower surface is hidden by the leaves' down-rolled edges. Flower heads of this species are 4–10 mm (0.16–0.39 in) wide, and are arranged at the ends of branches. Up to three floral leaves and several brown papery bracts grow at the base of these flower heads. The individual flowers are 2–3 mm (0.079–0.118 in) long, white or cream-coloured, and covered in woolly white hairs. Flowering occurs mainly from August to November.
Spyridium eriocephalum grows primarily in mallee vegetation on sandy flats or dunes, and sometimes grows in rocky locations. It is found in south-central New South Wales, across most of north-western Victoria, in south-eastern South Australia, and in a small number of isolated locations in Tasmania. The variety Spyridium eriocephalum var. glabrisepalum is restricted to South Australia.
