About Sprengelia propinqua A.Cunn. ex DC.
Sprengelia propinqua A.Cunn. ex DC. is a shrub that usually reaches a maximum height of 2 meters (6 feet 7 inches). Its leaves overlap one another, have a base that clasps the stem, and are egg-shaped. They measure 6โ20 mm (0.24โ0.79 in) long and 3โ6 mm (0.12โ0.24 in) wide, and are crowded near the ends of branches. The flowers are also crowded near the ends of branches. At the base of each flower are egg-shaped bracts 3.5โ5.0 mm (0.14โ0.20 in) long and 3.0โ4.5 mm (0.12โ0.18 in) wide. The sepals are narrowly lance-shaped and 7.6โ8.4 mm (0.30โ0.33 in) long. The petals are white, joined at the base to form a tube 1.4โ2.0 mm (0.055โ0.079 in) long, with narrowly lance-shaped lobes 6.2โ7.9 mm (0.24โ0.31 in) long. This species flowers from November to January. This sprengelia grows in heath and sedge communities in high rainfall areas, ranging from sea level to altitudes over 1,000 m (3,300 ft) in Tasmania, including the Southern and Central Highlands. It often grows alongside Sprengelia incarnata, and sometimes hybridises with this species.
