About Spragueia apicalis (Herrich-Schäffer, 1868)

Spragueia apicalis, commonly known as the yellow spragueia, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. This species was first formally described by Gottlieb August Wilhelm Herrich-Schäffer in 1868. It is found in North America, with recorded locations including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. It also occurs in Central America (including El Salvador and Costa Rica), Cuba, and Peru. The wingspan of this species is approximately 16 mm for females and 17 mm for males. Adult individuals of Spragueia apicalis display sexual dimorphism. The larvae of this moth are recorded to feed on Gutierrezia sarothrae.
