The blue-capped tanager, with the scientific name Sporathraupis cyanocephala, is a bird species that belongs to the tanager family Thraupidae. It was previously classified in the genus Thraupis. Now, it is the only species placed in the genus Sporathraupis. This species can be found in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, as well as heavily degraded former forest.
