Spodoptera cilium has several common names: dark mottled willow, lawn caterpillar, and grasslawn armyworm. This species is a noctuid moth that occurs across most of sub-Saharan Africa, western, southern, and south-east Asia, and multiple countries in southern and eastern Europe. It migrates to northern Europe, and has been recorded at least nine times in the United Kingdom. Its larvae feed on plants of the genus Oryza, and the species is sometimes considered a pest.
