About Spinifex longifolius R.Br.
Spinifex longifolius R.Br. grows as a tussock, reaching 30 centimetres to one metre in height, and up to two metres in width. It produces long, flat leaves, and flowers that are either green or brown. This species is visually similar to Spinifex littoreus, but S. littoreus has hard, sharp leaves that can cut and draw blood, while the leaves of S. longifolius are considerably softer. This plant grows on white sand coastal dunes, and is found in Australia, Indonesia, and Thailand. In Australia, its range extends from Cape Leeuwin in Western Australia, north and east to the western edge of Cape York Peninsula in Queensland. The Noongar people of southwest Western Australia used juice from the plant's young tips, dripped into the eyes, to relieve conjunctivitis.
