About Sphinx poecila Stephens, 1828
Sphinx poecila, commonly known as the poecila sphinx, is a moth belonging to the family Sphingidae. This species is distributed from Newfoundland and Maine in the north, south to Pennsylvania, and west to Michigan, northeastern Illinois, and Wisconsin. Its wingspan measures 68–95 mm. The larvae of Sphinx poecila feed on Rosa carolina, Picea glauca, Larix laricina, and species from the genera Alnus, Malus, Myrica, and Vaccinium.
