About Sphingonotus caerulans (Linnaeus, 1767)

Sphingonotus caerulans is a species that belongs to the subfamily Oedipodinae of the grasshopper family Acrididae. Its northern range limit reaches northern France, eastern Sweden, and southern Finland. In Central and Northern Europe, this species is only found in specialized habitats with low vegetation, where soil is kept free of vegetation through ongoing disturbance. It acts as a pioneer species of open habitats. It is very abundant across the Mediterranean region, particularly in rocky heath habitats.
