Sphenopholis obtusata, with the scientific binomial Sphenopholis obtusata (Michx.) Scribn., is a perennial bunchgrass. It reaches a maximum height between 20 centimeters and well over one meter. Its short leaves bear ligules that have jagged tips. Its inflorescence is typically a dense, spikelike panicle made up of oval-shaped spikelets. The inflorescence is greenish-white when young, and darkens to a brownish tone as it matures.
