About Spergularia marina (L.) Besser

Spergularia marina (L.) Besser, also known by the synonym Spergularia salina, is a flowering plant species belonging to the pink family, Caryophyllaceae. It is commonly called salt sandspurry or lesser sea-spurrey. S. marina is a sprawling plant that grows as an annual, and occasionally as a perennial. Its stems can reach up to 35 cm (14 inches) in length. Like other species of sea-spurrey, its flowers bear white to pink petals. Its sepals are usually longer than its petals, measuring 2.5–4 mm (0.1–0.2 in). This species is salt-tolerant, and grows in coastal areas near the sea as well as inland saline habitats.
