About Spartaeus zhangi Peng & Li, 2002

Spartaeus zhangi, first described by Peng & Li in 2002, is most morphologically similar to Spartaeus thailandicus. Males of this species can be distinguished from Spartaeus thailandicus by a set of unique morphological traits. Spartaeus zhangi exhibits sexual dimorphism in both body size and coloration. This species has been recorded in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, and at multiple localities across Laos. The holotype specimen was collected from Jinzhong highway, located in Jinxiu County, Guangxi, China. In Laos, the species has been found in limestone cave habitats, at elevations ranging from 180 to 373 meters above sea level.
