About Spargaloma sexpunctata Grote, 1873

Spargaloma is a monotypic moth genus that belongs to the family Erebidae. This genus contains only one species, Spargaloma sexpunctata, which is commonly known as the six-spotted gray. Both the genus and this species were first described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1873. The species can be found across lower Canada from coast to coast. In the eastern part of its range, it extends south to Florida, Mississippi, and Arkansas, while in the western part of its range, it reaches south to California. The wingspan of adult Spargaloma sexpunctata measures 25 to 29 mm. Adult moths are active and can be seen in flight from May to September each year.
