About Sparassis radicata Weir

The scientific name treated here is Sparassis radicata Weir. Sparassis, commonly called the cauliflower mushroom, is a genus of both parasitic and saprobic mushrooms. Members of this genus are recognized by their unique shape and appearance, which resembles a sea sponge, a brain, or a head of cauliflower โ€” this similarity gives the genus its popular common name. The genus name Sparassis comes from the Greek word sparassein, which means "to tear". Species in this genus are found worldwide. They are increasingly cultivated and sold commercially in Korea, Japan, the United States, and Australia.
