About Spalgis epius

Spalgis epius, commonly called the apefly, is a small butterfly species in the lycaenid (blues) family, found throughout the Indomalayan realm. It received its common name because its pupa is thought to resemble the face of an ape. Like other species in the subfamily Miletinae, the caterpillars of Spalgis epius are entomophagous, meaning they act as predators of scale insects such as mealybugs. Unlike most other lycaenid butterflies, this species is not myrmecophilous, and does not form any mutualistic associations with ants.
