About Sorbus californica Greene

Sorbus californica, commonly known as the California mountain ash, is an aggregate species of rowans. It grows as either a tree or a shrub, and bears compound leaves made up of many leaflets that have teeth along almost their entire length from base to apex. This species produces orange-red fruit. It is frequently confused with S. sitchensis, a western North American species that has leaflets with only a few teeth and bears pinkish fruit. Sorbus californica is native to western North America. As its common name suggests, it occurs in the mountains of California, and despite its common name, it is not a true ash. It is sometimes grown as a cultivated plant.
