About Sophora macrocarpa Sm.
Sophora macrocarpa Sm. is a small evergreen tree or large shrub that reaches roughly 3 meters (10 feet) in height, and grows long, slender branches. New growth on this plant is pubescent, covered in reddish-brown hairs. Its leaves are arranged alternately, grow up to 15 centimeters (6 inches) long, and are pinnate, with each leaf holding nine to fifteen individual leaflets. The upper surface of the leaflets is dark green, while the underside is slightly glaucous. It produces dangling flower clusters borne on long, thick stems. Each individual flower has five pale brown calyx lobes fused into a cup shape, five long yellow petals, and ten stamens. Its fruit develops as a pod that holds several seeds, and it flowers from August through December.
