About Sonchus canariensis (Webb) Boulos

Sonchus canariensis (Webb) Boulos has leaves that grow in terminal rosettes on its branches. Its leaves are pinnatisect, with narrow leaf lobes. The capitula are wide, up to 1.5 cm in diameter, and the plant reaches up to 3 m in height. The capitula are arranged in a loose inflorescence. This species is endemic to the central Canary Islands. The nominate subspecies Sonchus canariensis subsp. canariensis grows on both of the central Canary Islands, while subspecies Sonchus canariensis subsp. orotavensis Boulos is found only on Tenerife.
