Scientific name: Somatochlora septentrionalis (Hagen, 1861)
Adult muskeg emerald dragonflies have a total body length between 39 and 48 mm (1.5 to 1.9 in). Their bodies are metallic green, brown, and black, and they bear a faint yellow spot on the thorax. This species is indistinguishable from Whitehouse's emerald (Somatochlora whitehousei) when only looking at external features other than the shape of the male cerci and the female subgenital plate.
