About Solidago squarrosa Muhl.

Solidago squarrosa, commonly called stout goldenrod, is a North American goldenrod species belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is native to three Canadian provinces: Ontario, Québec, and New Brunswick, as well as the eastern United States, ranging from Maine west to Indiana, and south to Tennessee and the Carolinas. This species is a perennial herb that grows up to 150 cm (5 feet) tall, and has a branching underground caudex. Its leaves are egg-shaped. Leaves near the base of the plant can reach up to 20 cm (8 inches) long, while leaves growing higher on the stem are shorter. A single plant can produce up to 200 small yellow flower heads, arranged in a narrow, elongated cluster at the top of the stem.
