About Solidago lepida DC.

Solidago lepida, commonly known as western Canada goldenrod or western goldenrod, is a North American plant species in the genus Solidago of the family Asteraceae. It is widespread across most of Canada, the western United States, and northern Mexico. Solidago lepida is a perennial herb growing up to 150 cm (5 feet) tall, spreading by underground rhizomes. Its leaves have coarse teeth and grow along the stem rather than clustering at the base. One plant can sometimes produce as many as 800 small flower heads; each holds 7–22 ray florets surrounding 2–13 disc florets. The accepted infraspecific varieties and subspecies have the following distributions: Solidago lepida subsp. fallax (Fernald) Semple is found in Labrador, Newfoundland, Québec, and New Brunswick. Solidago lepida var. lepida ranges from Alaska east to the Northwest Territories and south to California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Chihuahua. Solidago lepida var. salebrosa (Piper) Semple occurs in the Rocky Mountains from Alberta and British Columbia south to New Mexico, Arizona, and Baja California.
